NUEVA DEFINICION DE CODICIA
€l Sr. Jorge Errazuriz en El Mercurio de hoy, publica su carta titulada CODICIA. En ella expone su vision personal de los eventos que crearon la situacion de crisis mudial financiera, dandole a la palabra CODICIA una legitimidad tan radicalmente
diferente de lo que ella implica hasta hacerla aparecer como caracteristica deseable del hombre en su afan de creatividad y de esfuerzo.
Este blog se llama "phrasecoiner" - que signfica mas o menos, acuñar frases o palabras. La del Sr. Errazuriz, sin embargo, para definir codicia supera la pretentida , MI pretendida capacidad de acuñar palabras nuevas y nuevos significados.
He aqui mi comentario a su carta:
Tengo un problema con semantica, o bien no entiendo lo que es codicia y la diferencio de la libertad de la capacidad entreprenurial de crear riqueza - legitimo derecho del sistema democratico, en un ejercicio de "libertad" que es aplicable cuando ella tiene como sus limites la responsabilidad y la etica,
o la situo alli donde debe estar si ella excede estos limites eticos y de responsabilidad.
Cuanto he leido al respecto muestra una coincidencia total con aquello de que la carencia de regulacion (palabra no deseada por el ala derecha) adecuada y necesaria, unida al "greed" sin control - fueron, son y seran las causas que producen cuanto caos de cualquier indole pueda generarse por gestion humana.
La frase que cito tomada de texto hoy que enfoca otra version de lo mismo,(abuso de poder) lee;
"One of life’s enduring mysteries is why powerful people risk substantial reputations and careers for relatively insubstantial sums of money. Perhaps the answer is power itself and the sense of entitlement and invulnerability it confers.
Solo que en el caso de la crisis mundial actual no fue "insubstancial" el precio de la irresponsabilidad y falta de etica. Un crimen de cuello blanco, a todas luces!!!

Asi lee articulo de The New York Times hoy sobre los efectos domesticos de la criisis financiera que conoce hoy el mundo. La gente vendiendo aquello que precia y valora por ser objetos de uso de los seres queridos de casa, de la hija, del hijo, de la mama, del padre, en fin, del que otrora fuera un signo del mas o menos buen vivir que se experimentaba alli, en MANTECA, California, como en tantas otras ciudades grandes, pequeñas, villorrios, etc. apartados o cercanos a los centros de distribucion y de adquisicion.
El dinero falta, y con el faltan tantas cosas que llenan la vida o la complementan o la hacen mas agradable.
Estas lineas estan dichos sin orden ni concierto. Solo la premura y a la vez el enojo ante tanto hecho inedito, inoido, no antes conocido o si conocido, ignorado,
las motivan, hechos extremos, de todo rango de acontecer humano : de la violencia de
hombres salvajes que violan sus mujeres en Africa, algunos vanagloriandose de ello, diciendo el numero de ellas que ha violado.....
Es una forma de la sin razon, de ignorancia, de falta de educacion, de pobreza extrema, de enfermedades que acosan y matan, como el SIDA - por un lado - ...
Por el otro, de aquellos que son educados, que no son pobres que, nunca sufrieron por falta de dinero para poder comer o curar alguna de sus enfermedades, pero que tan despediadamene mal - y por ello doblemente condenable -hicieron aquello que se les encomendo hacer precisamente por ser los capacitados para hacerlo, por sus titulos, sus grados universitarios, ....y que hoy, se encuentran a lo mejor sin sus suculentos empleos pero con los bolsillos llenos de "severance pay" estipulados en contratos previos a la contratacion, como "estimulo y reconocimiento".
Leo de gentes que no pueden comprar sus remedios y que deben postergar su tratamiento lo que -de acuerdo a autoridades medicas, puede ocasionar mas daño a la salud nacional - muchas veces mas - que el costo ahorrado de tratarlas por falta de dinero. Y la gente es llevada a ello para poder seguir viviendo, para costear los gastos indispensables y mas basicos e indispensables de hacer por obvias razones.
Y leo como algunas grandes , poderosas farmaceuticas hacen investigacion y research para descubrir nuevas drogas o metodos y en el proceso intervienen profesionales y cientificos de Universidades que aportan a sus cientificos para el objeto. Y como se producen situaciones de corrupcion con motivo de que las farmaceuticas quieran seguir manteniendo su preeminencia en el mercado mundial de medicamentos requeridos, mediante el metodo facil y convincente del dinero como "estimulo" a niveles intolerables.
Recientemente un articulo de Judith Wagner, The New York Times of October 11, al respecto enfoca el problema con mas claridad.
Localmente, algun canal televisivo trata el problema de las drogas, dispendio de ellas y las artamañas marqueteras que usan las cadenas de farmacias grandes para vender el arsenal de buenos y malos productos farmaceuticos, de aquellos que generan
mas utilidad, de aquellos genericos que debian estar a la venta y que no se encuentran por razones simples de mayor utilidad en la venta de aquellos productos de "marca"
Por otro lado, siempre me intrigo el hecho de que algunos medicos prescriben medicamentos "en permanencia", es decir: Ud. debe usar esto de por vida...de lo contrario.....
Me asaltan dudas acerca de la legitimidad profesional para presscribir medicamentos -algunos de ellos a precios prohibitivos -"en permanencia".
Cierto, no dudo de la calidad moral de los medicos y creo que la mayoria se guia por el noble deseo de curar enfermos por vocacion y en estricto seguimiento del juramento Hipocratico, pero...y aqui deberia inyectar algo asi como :
Senor doctor, todas las enfermedades pueden mostrar ciertos sintomas que las hacen distinguibles unas de otras, pero los enfermos que las sufren NO TIENEN NADA EN COMUN ENTRE SI , aunque sufran el mismo mal. Claro, la historia es que si hay un problema fisico a una parcela del cuerpo humano : corazon, riñon, estomago, pulmones y vias respiratorias, etc los procesos del enfoque curativo son los mismos, los mismos medicamentos para remediar el mal o el mismo antibiotico.
Claro, el genoma humano es de reciente incoporacion al proceso de consideracion del tratamiento a seguir y como este es diferente en cada individuo, no queda -por el momento, se arguye - sino proceder de acuerdo a la forma de tratamiento medico que se ha venido siguiendo desde hace siglos. El genoma mio me indicara a mi y al medico tratante, cuales es mas especificamente mi problema de salud y , por lo tanto, cual sera o debe ser el tratamiento especifico.
Ya digo, "en permanencia" es una sentencia que viene de un profesional que me ha visto una, dos, 10 veces, a lo mejor, pero que ha visto -el mismo profesional- a cientos de personas con diferentes sintomas y dolencias que de alguna manera las han agrupado para que las trate un ESPECIALISTA. El especialista no tiene idea que persona soy yo, ni cuales mis habitos, ni cuales mis motivaciones, ni mis puntos algidos o los mas valiosos o determinantes de mi make-up.
El carpintero repone una pata de la mesa del comedor sin ningun problema: va a un Home Center, compra la pata de repuesto y la coloca de vuelta en su sitio. Ni un problema.
Pero pareciera que algunos profesionales quieren ver que la pata nueva a lo mejor no resiste que se le atornille la nueva pata porque la madera en el sitio esta, o con termitas o medio apolillada por desgaste natural. El cuerpo humano tambien tiene desgaste, algunos mas que otros, algunos se apolillan antes, otros no tan pronto, o tardan mas en apolillarse.
El punto es que el medico no puede ver, no esta en sus manos ni su alcance saber la composicion fisica, mental, o psiquica o como quiera llamarse, de lo que hace vivir a un individuo. TODOS los individuos son diferentes...diferentes en aquello que importa de verdad, en aquello que motiva y guia a la gente a un fin determinado , a una realizacion, a una carencia de motivacion. Lo unico en comun es el organo sexual que, SIN DUDA, identifica y distingue a hombres de mujeres.
Ya dije, estas lineas fueron escritas como impulso emocional pero sin el orden ni el detalle que cada uno de los temas vistos mereciera ser considerado. Una cosa , sin embargo, es cierta en cuanto a conviccion objetiva es, o son:
1. La violencia y el salvajismo de individuos ignorantes en el trato de sus mujeres, Esos se distinguen solo por eso que son hombres : porque tienen un pene. Punto.
2. Los otros que se distinguen tambien por ser hombres , pero esta vez vez educados, e inteligentes, ademas de vivarachos, (el sistema lo hace posible, siempre es lo mismo), los que hasta la fecha permanecen inmunes en circunstancias que deberian estar enfrentando a un Tribunal Moral de equivalencia Nuremberg o La Haya para enfrentar cargos tambien de
Criminales de VIDA (peor en este caso puesto que los "muertos", siguen viviendo)
3. Muchos medicos con la receta "en permanencia" de uso...vale decir de por vida. De por vida?
4. Inescrupulosidad de farmacias y farmaceuticas, o ambas a la vez, en el dispendio o falta de dispendio de medicamentos que me han metido el "cuco" de que debo usarlos por toda mi vida, pero qeu no los encuentro en la farmacia.
5. Todo lo demas.
PABLO NERUDA.....(Pablo que....?)
No ha estado en mi mente escribir sobre Pablo Neruda. He leido algunos de sus poemas, he musicalizado algunos, y eso es todo. Por eso, esta mañana me llamo la atencion un blog "FUNDACION NERUDA....de nerudiana, NADA!!!"
Al leer el blog me entero de la historia : El rechazo de la Fundacion Neruda a la realizacion de un homenaje al poeta por un gruppo llamado Asociacion de Poetas del Mundo que, en numero importante de poetas extrangeros exteriorizaban este homenaje.
El blog esta en EL CIUDADANO de hoy. He comentado de la siguiente
forma :
Mentalidad clasista, subdesarrollada, estrecha, agena a arte o poesia, a descubrimiento, a curiosidad.? "Open mindedness" (!!??),( ellos deben conocer algo de esta expresion ).
Tangencialmente tuve contacto con la Fundacion Neruda.
Ya hace años, musicalize 4 o 5 o 6 poemas del poeta y los someti a su aprobacion y autorizacion de uso del material de propiedad intelectual que ellos representan. Se otorgo aprobacion a los temas sometidos con un trato 50/50 .. Ningun problema aqui. Tampco hice o cree problema pensar que remotamente la Fundacion haria mencion de este trajin, de este musicalizador, de quien escribe. Total, pense, ellos no son los encargados de vender mi musica. Esa es tarea mia.
Nunca paso nada con la musica que hice de los sonetos de Neruda y tampoco aqui ningun problema...es decir, aqui nada es problema, todo va por cauces propios, con propositos determinados o sin propositos ni fines determinados. A la chilena. No vivo de hacer musica ni me hace mas pobre no venderla o propagarla, afortunadamente.
Me causo enojo, sin embargo, un par de años atras, escuchar y ver un homenaje a Neruda que tuvo lugar en Barcelona, al cual asistieron personalidades y en el
renombrados artistas como Ana Belen, Juan Manuel Serrat y otros cantaron musicalizaciones del poeta.
De nuevo, mi enojo no era por lo mio sino por lo de Chile, es decir, tal homenaje no ha encontrado localmente, en este pais, una correspondiente respuesta a no solo la historia de este pais sino a un exponente de arte que ha encontrado eco grande fuera de los limites estrechos, tan estrechos como su geografia, de este pais...
FRANO KOVAC
Para la mayoria este nombre es seguramente desconocido. Solo unos pocos lo conocen. las redes de canales televivos, las radios (algunas, creo), algun representante de los medios...(creo), pero..
Frano Kovac es o representa lo que este pais siempre rehusa reconocer, no ve o no quiere ver...como si hubiera tanta abundancia de gente talentosa como Frano - a quien conozco, es amigo, pero que no tiene idea de que estoy escribiendo estas lineas. No para conseguir que me ayude como musico, sino como persona que habita este pais, poco amigo de creatividad y uña y carne con el "copismo" , , y ve lo que sucede y lo que no sucede (esto ultimo no porque no tenga oiidos o sea sordo)
Pero solo hay que mirar un poco hacia atras para ver otros ejemplos mas conocidos (lo que no significa que lo desconocido este exento de reconocimiento por estar detras de las bambalinas) como Violeta Parra, Naria Teresa Bombal, etc. etc.
Sucede que -en mi impresion- Frano es un musico sobresaliente. Tengo ciertas dudas de que el se de cuenta de su real dimension. Vaya ,... no es formidable ni desluimbrante ni nada por el estilo, (no soy prodigo en adjetivos, digo : es bueno !!!) simplemente es un excelente musico. Y me atrajo su manera de hacer musica - que es como lo de pocos que yo conozca localmente, asemejandose tremendamente a las "big bands" de otrora... que se yo Elgar, Tommy Dorsey, etc. En mis libros, la mejor banda de estos lados, que sonaria bien en USA o Europa.
Entiendo que ha formado parte por años del grupo que acompaño a Buddy Richard, y que regularmente acompaña a otros artistas de cartel que se asoman a Chile, como El Puma Rodriguez, etc.
Tiene un sitio modesto en www.myspace.com/franokovac y un par de temas de sus producciones que vale la pena escuchar.
Y entre parentesis, es el esposo de una chica con mucHo talento que se llama artisticamente Almendra

iF you are so smart, how come you are not rich?
Apropos of the article by Judith Wagner in The New York Times yesterday, and readers comments (bits thereof above) there are so many questions regarding the situation the US is in , particularly now with a presidential election coming up and this article by Judith Wagner, whether this is not something that has been evolving for how long...God only knows, and has come to surface only now?
The problems of the financial criisis that affects the entire world but others as well seem to conjure up to create a picture of concerns almost everyone everywhere....wrongdoing seems to be taking place in the area of health, medicine, research as well ..
What gave birth to these tremendously afflicting problems - the economy and the well being of people, health care being one of the most sought out items.
And all questiions seem to converge to trying and find out the causes.
I believe is the system...a generous system that gives man the possibility of exercising his capacity to the fullest to get the things that will allow him and his family to best enjoy life. The rewards offered by the system are not exempt from a price to be paid.
In the process of getting his job done with a fair reward, he is submitted to the pressure of quotas that must be met and goals attained. A system of incentives and rewards in free and healthy competition with others is the basis of the economic success, both personal and for the country.

The name of the game however is to beat the competition and in so doing, man acquires not only wealth and recognition but a sales pitch that is not devoid of tricks , which quite often lead to skipping and disregarding attendant formalities and go straight into situatiions where the moral limit of free enterprise is obliterated, disregarded and deception and cheating come into play.
Thus the word free losing the words ´´moral limit´´ceases to stand for freedom. because there is no freedom without responsibility
iF YOU´RE SO SMART, HOW COME YOU ARE NOT RICH?
. And this trait of deception is well portrayed in the above quote: If you´re so smart...how come you´re not rich? and others to the same effect...
Greed results wherever there´s the growth, abundance and plenty of money....God created all men equal, so the fact that there are so called winners and losers proves only that there are those who make a living getting a fixed amount of money for the job they do while others have no limit to their incomes because they are professionales and work in specialized areas, or work for themselves, and have access to possibilities that others don´t. The winners are the well educated and sophisticated while the losers, who know full well who and where they are...as we all do
Success thus became asociated with the power that creates money...with material things, costly paintings, things of distinction, etc.
And a form of life quality is created that has little to do with real, good and healthy life quality.....the one which priorizes idle time for peace within, meditating, music listening, book reading, conversation...ideas to enlarge our intellectual horizon.. nature contemplation, sunddowns, quiet seas
or raging seas and the wonder of eyes that watch in amazement ...the kind of life that engenders good will , healthy joy of meeting others ...the kind of life that tells you that now is the time to sit down and listen .
A kind of life where color is associated only with the colors of the rainbow and not with black, white brown or yellow...the color of the skin of so many around the world... there are degrees of white and degrees of black and yellow and of all colors....a black from the USA is not like a black of anywhere else, like one from Senegal, or Kenya, or....
Or the degrees of white....just take a look at norh and south, east and west of the USA or of any other country....In fact, while it is true that all men are basically equal in their needs and in their make-up it is also true that there no two equal faces..no folks with the same eyes , even in the same country or with the same smile or tone of voice... or anything about them. They are TOTALLY different...as different as they in their opinions, in their discourse, in their habits, in their passions and in their greeds. Each one of us is different, UNIQUE.
As I read comments to various themes in the newspapers, I note the kind of incredible good people who speak their minds on various subjects, , ..and reading them , a kind of confidence and hope arises within me, , I read words of good, intelligent people..
Words where is shown that the good prevails even if it seem to be losing ground to the forces of evil...evil that seems to have gradually entered our homes... on the sly..withouit our attention..or perhaps without a good read on our part..or whatever. We discover rather late that what is precious in our lifes must be protected no matter how small and humble our contribtuion to this effect may be. Certainly one way is by raising our voices..let many of them cry out what believe is right and do not acquiese or give up the right and duty to protect what is your obligation to protect and devote your life to, if necessary...
FACES OF WRONGDOERS TO THE WORLD
As events unfold and day by day we find that the extent of the financial Crisis
extends around the world, again questions are demanded fromthose who should have
straight answers, among those a Mr. Fuld, top Executive officer of Lehman Bros. being
subject of questioning by Congress. As I read from The New York Times, today:
At one point on Monday, Mr. Fuld was confronted with an internal memo dated June 8 that included warnings about Lehman’s condition and asked the question, “Why did we allow ourselves to be so exposed?”
Mr. Fuld, after a long scan of the memo, said, “This document does not look familiar to me.”
With November’s elections just a month away, Democrats said their constituents were most upset at what they viewed as exorbitant severance packages that Wall Street executives received, even as companies like Lehman Brothers were staring down bankruptcy.

A few days back I posted a blog, excerpt of which is as follows:
.... the greed of a bunch of men in executive positions in the realm of finance and banking.
It will be conceded that in the performance of the task of these men it is legal to obtain profits as in any other work activity, but to obtain profits that go beyond a point where such are reasonable and become simply a process by which the speculation - or excess greed, to increase such profits produce the chaos that is now being faced. by the world, it is not acceptable and should be comdemned.
Speculation thus is an intrinsec part of the profession but when we arrive at what now is centering the eyes of the world, questions are raised and with that, the natural espectation to have answers is demanded.
As aa lay person, like perhaps millions, I ¨m not knowledgeable of the processes under question. I´m just a person who lives off my work income to sustain myself and my family.
What a citizen can do is only ask quesitions and demand answers.....wheher there ae limits to the excesses in the commisiom of their labors and whether there is an early detection system in force to avoid a melt down. Further, he wants to know whether a "white collar" crimen - which in his view is what it is - that causes more damage and suffering than the "blue collar" ones, to more people , without mentiioning the discredit of a system that we seek to promote arouind the world as the one that provides peoples with he most advantages and benefits.
Isn´t it even a worse crime than other crimes in the sense that to the extent that we fight corruption and discrimination aroundthe world we find that the enemy - the real enemy is perhaps not beyond our borders but INSIDE our house?
Is beyond me to accept and understand that in the name of free enterprse practces - product only freedom of enterprise and democracy - that these practices are taking place and being shielded by the pretention of adhering to the fair game of offer and demand.
Free trade and free enterprise that prosper at such expense is enough to discredit the democratic system and its liberties. It would suffice to uncover such malpractices to totally deny the advantages and benefit thereof and to demand imeediate correction or set it aside as unreliable and corrupt.
If there is consencus in signling war crimes and sending their violators to Criminal War Trials for crimes to the Humanity, what type of punishment should be accorded to those who betray public trust and enrich themselves at their expense?
The essense of Liberty and Freedom - in my book - hold responsibility as their only acceptable natural and moral limit.
Never before in the history of the USA the election of a President has been more
trascendent than at this time. when the requite of a steady, forceful hand and vision of the future is needed, more than needed, demanded.
